Hi there. We are using Spotlight Enterprise v12 in my organisation. I've recently installed Spotlight Extensions on my PC but when I try and configure it to point to my diagnostic server it gives me an error and says 'can't connect to the Diagnostic Server' - is the service Spotlight Extensions Diagnostic Server running on your diagnostic server. I've checked services on the server and this service does not exist? No where in the documentation for Spotlight Extensions does it explain that you need to instal anything on the server, it all looks client based? Please advise.
Can anyone tell me if Spotlight on SQL Enterprise, Backup Alarm Settings can be configured in a way that won't fire if the Node being monitored is the primary Node.
I want to run all backups on the Secondary only for AG.
What I need is to have the alerts turned on for each node, and on the primary, the backup job is suppressed as its the primary but in a situation where we failover, the alarm would become active for what was the primary and is now the secondary(and vice versa).
Is that feasible?
thank in advance
I am simply using TSS 6.8 Xpert and the Query Builder tool.
I've assigned a WHERE condition in the designer to say WHERE Visit_ID = :VisitID, so that when I run the TSM script, it will prompt me for a value to replace the ":VisitID".
However looking at the automatic generated SQL, there is clearly a space between the colon-character and my variable name, which is SQL syntactically incorrect. This never happened in earlier version of TSS, unless there is an option to stop this?! May someone please assist?
Also is there a way to default the ':' colon char to '@' instead?
I have the following within Spotlight on SQL Server:
Alarm: Monitored Server - SQL Server Collection Execution FailureKey: SQL Cluster failover detectionSeverity: InformationalRaised: <today>Message: Collection 'SQL Cluster failover detection' failed : Execution state was not set
The remainder of the message are the steps to disable this monitor. Can anyone explain how to fix the root cause of this rather than just disabling the monitor within Spotlight?
Has anyone attempted to set up spotlight to use sounds for alarms? Ive attempted to use run a program and run powershell and a script, it runs, but no sound is played. If i run the script in powershell seperately it works just fine.
does anyone have this working and could help?
Could someone point me in the direction of documentation about the Spotlight Plugin Diagnostic Server. I have inherited a system that seems to have it installed and I cannot find any information about it. Not sure how I can look at its alarms or if it is even monitoring anything important other than looking at records in its database. There is a SpotlightPluginDiagnosticServer.exe and SpotlightPluginCollecter.exe running.
I also have a system that has Spotlight on SQL Server Enterprise 11.5 running with its own diagnostic server and databases and based on the data may be monitoring some of the same machines as the plugin.
We use Spotlight Enterprise für SQL Server.
We have Servers where we get:
Databases - Data File Group Space Used AlarmDatabases - Dynamic Data File Group Growths Remaining alarmDatabases - Log File Space Used AlarmDatabases - Dynamic Log File Growths Remaining alarm
but no Information which database is mean. We have a lot gig free on the Servers. All the grow steps is ok. And all is autogrow.
What should i do? Ignore all These alarms?
An link to the right Information would be helpful.
I have a SQL availability group named SharePoint-AG running in an active/passive manner on two servers: SRV6 and SRV7. I have added SharePoint-AG as a SQL Server to Spotlight running on the cluster SharePoint-AG. (Yes, the SQL listener and the cluster have the exact same name - don't judge me too harshly as this was my first availability group.) When I go into the SQL server SharePoint-AG properties, the connection is set to SharePoint-AG as "Cluster (monitor active node). When I click the Test button, Spotlight reports "SQL Server Test Successded". I've also added an Availability Group connection for SharePoint-AG showing that it runs on SRV6 and SRV7. Again, when I click on the Test button for the Availability Group, I get "Availability Group Test Succeeded". I've also added SRV6 and SRV7 as Windows servers.
When I select Windows SRV6 or Windows SRV7, I see the CPU load on each server but when I select SQL Server SharePoint-AG, the CPU Usage monitor is greyed out and had an error flag that reads "CPU information for the OS cannot be collected. Windows connection details have not been set up."
Can anyone confirm if the CPU Usage monitor works with SQL running as an Availability Group? Does anyone have any recommendation on why my SQL monitor won't display the CPU Usage.
I've even tried adding a SQL Server named SRV6 which is running on Windows server SRV6 - essentially ignoring the fact that there is an availability group - but even THAT refuses to display the CPU usage.
Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.
I would like to find out what version of Diagnostic Server I'm running. I have Auto-Update setup and it doesn't seem to do anything.
I do the following:

When moving about within the Wait Events section i get:
"Error retrieving data: ClientConnectIssue: Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown"
How should i start troubleshooting this issue?
Is this a problem with the spotlight server or with the SQL server that the spotlight DB sits on?
Are there any default settings for memory on the spotlight server, or for the instance that spotlight DB is running on that i should be aware of?
My Spotlight on SQL Server reports an index with 99% fragmentation so I used the generated script to rebuild it. That was half an hour ago and Spotlight still shows the same index with 99% fragmentation. Is there a way to force Spotlight on SQL Server to update its Index Fragmentation data?
