Beta Notes

Compare Schemas Create/Alter DB Objects Export DDL Rebuild Table Schema Browser

Toad now supports the 12cR2 feature COLLATION, which controls grouping and sort order for string-type columns.

It is supported in the Schema Browser, Create/alter User/Table/View/MView, Schema Compare, rebuild table, and script generation.

Compare Databases Create/Alter DB Objects Schema Browser

In 12c Release 2, there is a new profile parameter called INACTIVE_ACCOUNT_TIME.

This is now supported in Toad everywhere that profiles are supported.

Beta Notes

Export Table as Flat File

Export Table as Flat File window has undergone a GUI update.

The exported files are the same, except now Intervals and Timestamps are supported in the SQL*Loader file.

The GUI will now allow you to include/exclude columns by checking/unchecking, and start/end positions of remaining columns are updated automatically when you do that.

Schema Browser

Schema Browser now optionally includes an indicator for Invalid Synonyms. It can be enabled in Schema Browser's filter. It is an option because loading this information requires joining DBA_SYNONYMS to DBA_OBJECTS, which might be slow for some users.

Also added is SB-Synonyms -> Right-click -> Compile.

Compare Databases Create/Alter DB Objects Export DDL

Oracle 18c Support

Tablespaces can now be created with the content type of "Lost Write Protection" (this is called a shadow tablespace).

In addition, you can turn lost write protection on/off (or suspend it) for a permanent or undo tablespace.

You can read about Shadow Tablespaces here:
https://docs.oracle.com/en/database/oracle/oracle-database/18/admin/managing-tablespaces.html#GUID-23154DE0-B2AA-4D73-BBCA-73ED5786FF2B

Formatting/Parsing (QP5)

Fix (QP 2963) : Restoring parser performance which degraded slightly in QP5.317.

New (QP 2932) : Greatly enhanced syntax recovery at clause and token level.

Fix (QP 2978) : ALTER TABLE: partitioning clauses (sub)partition names can be nested within parentheses (undocumented).

Create/Alter DB Objects

Create/Alter Tablespaces

Default Storage and Extent Management controls have been moved to a separate tab.

Compare Databases Export DDL Schema Browser

Oracle 18c Support

Users can now be created with the "No Authentication" clause.

These users can be used as schemas in that they can contain objects, but cannot be used to log into the database.

In Toad, this is supported in SB-Users-Scripts, Export DDL, Create/alter user, and compare databases.

Formatting/Parsing (QP5)

Grammar

  • Queries: FETCH FIRST ROW ONLY now supported
  • CREATE AUDIT POLICY: HIEARCHY now supported

Formatter

  • SqlPlus text is no longer formatted; it will be copied "as is".

Code Analysis

  • Rule 5916 ("Beware of and avoid implicit date/timestamp conversions.") Changed "data type" to "date/timestamp", and examples adjusted. (QP 2817)
  • Rewrite of 43 CA rules, resulting in a 30% speed increase.

Formatting/Parsing (QP5)

Formatter

New (QP 2830) : Formatter options, Newline tab: New option to ensure a newline near the end of the formatted file. Default value is unchecked, preserving the old behavior.

Code Analysis

Fix (QP 2809) : Rule 5406 ("Remove unused parameters or modify code to use the parameter.") rewritten for performance (about 25 times faster on a big Oracle package).

Fix (QP 2887) : Rule 6740 ("Assigning variable to itself (A := A).") did not work for tab(1) := other_tab(1).

Fix (QP 2277) : Rule 6724 ("Check on PL/SQL block label matching.") did not work well for packages.

New rule 6746 ("This identifier has the name of a built-in function or package.")

Good Morning TOAD Team,

      Sorry, I did not try the SDI interface when still in beta; I love it in production, but some users will not be able to get there.  When switching either way, from MDI to SDI or back from SDI to MDI, if I press OK I receive the following error message and are stuck in settings:  If you press apply, TOAD tells you it needs to restart and when you accept, restarts and makes the change.  :-)

The following files specified on the Executables tab could not be found:

SQL*Plus

Whenever the PC resumes from standby or hibernation, TOAD prompts for reconnect.

This window also appears, if the last window has not been confirmed after the last standby/hibernation, so each one adds another confirmation on top of the other which needs to be confirmed.

Certainly not critical, but unnecessary and might be easy to fix.

Thanks, Peter

All,

this relates to Beat 13.0.0.25 of Toad for Oracle.

In the merge statement in the example below, the AS clauses are aligned. This is ok.
The equal signs in the update sub-clause are aligned also aligned. This would be more apparent if I'd have used names of different lengths. But the alignment is ok.

Yet the equal signs in the ON clause are not aligned. Looks rather strange to me:

I know operators in ON clause predicates are not aligned either. So in a sense this is consistent.
But still it seems inconsistent within the context of the merge statement having proper alignment in other subsections of the statement.

Are there any plans for adding code to align the operators in ON clauses?

Kind regards,
Abe Kornelis

Using TOAD Schema Browser/Create Table I created a table which included an identity column.  The column was also set up using the Create Table tool.

I then copied the table to Editor and tweaked some names as I intended to generate a second table.  Unfortunately the editor was flagging the Identity syntax that Schema Browser created as you can see in the attached picture.

However, the syntax is be valid.  It runs successfully if I  use the Editor "Execute as a Script" drop-down to run it using SQL *Plus.

In our Team Coding project, we only have PL/SQL objects and views.  I just tried to alter a table in one of our schemas and was told it was locked in Team Coding by another user.  When I look at the Team Coding Manager, I do not see this table listed anywhere.

When I look at "Show Team Coding Objects" I see a number of tables and views that show up as "Uncontrolled".  This table is one that shows up there, so I would think that TC would allow this.
How do I get these uncontrolled objects out of team coding so I can make the changes I need to? Can I simply delete them from the TC tables without breaking other things?
(I'm also reporting this because I'm guessing it is a bug - if the object is uncontrolled, TC shouldn't prevent me from doing anything with it - right?)
Blessings,
Phyllis

I have switched from MDI to SDI style, and then back to MDI. Afterwards, the Output Window was displayed as a separate window.
Then I tried to pin it to the right side of my TOAD window. It just disappears.

I can bring it back by disabling and re-enabling it via View -> Output Window, afterwards it is pinned to the bottom.
I can drag it to the left side and back to the bottom without problems, but as soon as I drag it to the right side and release my mouse button, the window is gone again.

Can you reproduce this? Do you need my configuration files?

Thanks!

Hi,

Latest  Toad beta (13.0.0.69) x64.

In automation designer, when comparing schema, I get this warning:

This warning prevents from continuing automation script.

I know that this value is needed, but could it be somehow sent to resulting part on the top and do not stop execution?

Good Morning TOAD Team,

How to determine synonym validity in SB?

Howdy,

We had a (planned) table drop and recreate in our Prod DB last night.  Today, dev calls that they can't access the table, getting:

ORA-04045: errors during recompilation/revalidation of MYSCHEMA.MYSYN
ORA-16000: database open for read-only access

The dev's app is connected to our Active Data Guard physical standby that's opened read-only.  The app accesses the table via a local synonym, MYSCHEMA.MYSYN, which points to MYAPP.MYTABLE.  Going into Toad 13.0.0.69 Schema Browser, Synonyms, everything looks fine, including data retrieval.  After doing a "SELECT * FROM DBA_INVALID_OBJECTS" in the Editor, I see that the synonym is invalid, which makes sense from the app's standpoint -- the table was dropped and recreated, invalidating the synonym, but the app can't validate the synonym from its connection on the read-only standby.

But in the SB, there's no indication that the synonym is invalid.  Clicking on the RHS Data tab, the SQL pulls directly from the synonym's referenced object, instead of through the synonym.  And there's no "Valid" column in the LHS.  Because the SB's RHS Data tab SELECTs directly from the underlying object, the synonym will not validate.  That made this a bit of a head-scratcher.  Thankfully, my nails are trimmed, or I could have left gouges in my bald pate.

Any thoughts on making the validity of synonyms apparent in the SB?

Thanks!
Rich

--

Possible SQL recreation, adding a column to the underlying table (this is what our ERP does to add columns to tables):

CREATE TABLE MYAPP.MYTABLE (MYCOL1 NUMBER);

INSERT INTO MYAPP.MYTABLE (MYCOL1) VALUES (1);
COMMIT;  --yes, the DCL that follows will implicitly commit. Do it anyway!

GRANT SELECT ON MYAPP.MYTABLE TO MYSCHEMA;

CREATE SYNONYM MYSCHEMA.MYSYN FOR MYAPP.MYTABLE;

DROP TABLE MYAPP.MYTABLE PURGE;

CREATE TABLE MYAPP.MYTABLE (MYCOL1 NUMBER, MYCOL2 NVARCHAR2(32));

INSERT INTO MYAPP.MYTABLE (MYCOL1, MYCOL2) VALUES (1,N'WHEEEEEE!');
COMMIT;

GRANT SELECT ON MYAPP.MYTABLE TO MYSCHEMA;

Synonym MYSCHEMA.MYSYN is now invalid, but the SB won't show it.

I have ended connection to Team Foundation.  Logging on with Toad, our designated administrator schema, I disabled Team Coding on the database and set VCS Provider to "none".

However, every time I start up Toad, it comes up with the Team Foundation logon request. (this also now happens with Toad 12 so it may or may not have been caused by the beta)

Note:  I just noticed that if I start up TOAD with no session logged in, it seems to be defaulting to Team Foundation server (3rd pic).

OK.  That cleared it.  Somehow, it continued to default to Team Foundation server and tried to logon before even getting connected to any database via session logon.  Without logging on to a session, I opened team coding, selected VCS provider "none", and then clicked Apply and then OK.  Now the bare TOAD startup is not asking for logon and when I open the Team Coding window it lists "none" as the VCS provider choice.

1. Team Configuration cleared

2. logon request keeps appearing

3. However, even with no session, this seems to be the default on Team Coding now
