I was happy that Oracle finally got around to releasing Oracle Forms 12c, and confidently expected Oracle to offer us the normal 5 years of premier support and 3 years of extended support. But that's not what happened.
You see, Oracle considers Forms 12c to be part of Fusion Middleware 12c. Since the first bits of FMV 12c were released back in Dec 2011, the normal premier support end date would be Dec 2016, and the end of extended support would be Dec 2019. Oracle has increase premier support, but only until Dec 2017. See the support timeline here.
What does this mean for you as a Forms customer? It means that your brand-new Forms 12c is heading out of support in only 2 (two!) years, at the end of 2017. Since it took Oracle 4 years to release 12c, do you feel confident they will manage to release Forms 12.2 before support runs out?
While Oracle is still paying lip service to continuing with Forms, they are in practice spreading uncertainty and doubt. Possibly in order to scare their customers off Forms?
I've talked to Oracle and they confirm that Forms 12c is part of FMW 12.2. Oracle just haven't gotten around to updating the support timeline document to include 12.2 (or maybe the Forms Statement of Direction just points to an old one). Here's hoping for another 5+3 years of Forms support!
